Chapter 1: An Awkward Reunion

Zi Mo was shocked and looked at him in disbelief. Four years ago, although they weren't particularly close, there had never been any conflict between them. Why was he looking at her with such contempt, even disgust? And what was the reason for his sudden departure abroad without a word all those years ago?

“I, I didn’t…” Zi Mo couldn't bear his gaze that made her so embarrassed. She held onto the wall beside her and struggled to stand up, almost losing her balance. With her back against the cold wall, her voice trembled as she explained: “Yi Chen, it’s not what you think. I don't know why I'm here either.”

“Is that so? What’s going on?” Yichen stood up, following her. He took a step forward, leaning in, propping himself up with one elbow against the wall while extending the other hand to enclose Zi Mo within a small space before him. A smile still played on his lips, but his eyes seemed cold and sharp. “I’ve only just returned to City A today, and you're already so eager to come to me? Could this be a coincidence? I remember when I was abroad, you tried to contact me many times, didn’t you?”

He leaned in, his breath warm on her cheek. The warmth that had been lessening because of the chill emanating from him flared up completely.
